Dr Theodoros Chatzidamianos is Academic Fellow at the Physiotherapy Department of the University of West Attica (UniWA), Athens, Greece and visitor of the Postgraduate Programme “New Methods in Physiotherapy”. His main interests include therapeutic exercise in mental health, neurological and cardiorespiratory disorders.
He completed his undergraduate studies in Physiotherapy (2006) at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Lamia, Greece. He holds a MSc degree in Physiotherapy and a PhD degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. His PhD thesis investigates the effectiveness of a group based therapeutic exercise and educational programme on depression in patients with Parkinson’s disease. He earned a scholarship for his PhD studies by the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece (IKY). He has also attended a series of courses in neurological rehabilitation and physiotherapy in mental health.
He has been teaching courses in the field of Research Methods, Physiotherapy in Mental Health, Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Neurological Physiotherapy in several universities in Greece (University of West Attica, University of Thessaly, Technological Educational Institute of Sterea Ellada) and Cyprus (European University of Cyprus) since 2010. He is also working as clinical physiotherapist treating individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other related disorders.
He is registered with the British Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and he is a member of the organisation “Exercise is Pharmacy- Greece”. He was also the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the 9th conference of the International Organisation of Physical Therapy in Mental Health (IOPTMH)
