ELEFTHERIOS KARATZANOS MSc PhD, Applied and Clinical Exercise Physiologist, has been a Research Associate and Scientific Coordinator of the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing & Rehabilitation Laboratory, School oof Medicine, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. He graduated Department of Physical Education & Sports Science, NKUA. He was awarded the MSc title on ‘Sports Physiology’ by John Moores University (Liverpool, UK) and the PhD title by School of Medicine, NKUA. He has co-authored more than 60 papers in national and international journals, as well as more than 180 abstracts in national and international congresses (scopus h-index: 17 – 1.138 citations, google scholar h-index: 19 – 2.107 citations). His research areas have been focused on adaptations to exercise training and assessment of exercise capacity in patients (such as ICU, CHF, LVAD) and healthy populations, ergospirometry, early mobilization/rehabilitation, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, microcirculation/endothelial function, technological applications of rehabilitation and exercise in health and disease.

He has participated in European Union funded projects on exercise rehabilitation application employing technological innovations. He has also participated in seminars and congresses as a presenter on topics related to exercise training in clinical populations. He has been a reviewer for several scientific Journals. He has been a founder member and member of the Board of the Greek Society of Ergospirometry, Exercise and Rehabilitation. He is also a member of various international societies of sports science and rehabilitation (European Association of Preventive Cardiology, European College of Sports Science, American College of Sports Medicine), as well as the ‘European Network on Rehabilitation of Critically ill Patients’. He has supported in terms of exercise training and assessment many recreational athletes and was for almost 15 years an instructor in Offshore Sailing.
